I went to the dentist and ophthalmologist this afternoon and got home at 7pm. After returning home, I had no more energy to cook dinner and decided to take my sons to Saizeriya, a Japanese restaurant chain. My elder son’s bicycle had a flat tire, so we walked there, and my step count exceeded 8,000 steps, making it a day of walking well.

The reason I went to the ophthalmologist was to replace my contact lenses. However, I was in a rush and forgot to bring my current lenses. But when I told the receptionist this, she said that today was just a consultation and lens adjustment, and that I could bring my old lenses when the new ones arrived at the store. I was relieved that my time was not wasted since I took the bus all the way there.

Recently, I felt that I had some difficulty seeing in my left eye, but the examination results showed that the power of both the left and right eyes had not changed much from before. The doctor said that I may feel this way because I have more astigmatism in my left eye. So I decided to order the same contact lenses as before. I took my second son with me and was glad that he was waiting for me while quietly reading a book about miso soup and vegetables. The lenses would be available for pickup after June 2. After leaving the ophthalmologist, we bought clothes and shoes for the children and headed home.

My elder son came home from cram school at about the same time as we did. I’m tired today! Let’s go to Saizeriya!” I said, and he was overjoyed. As we walked to Saizeriya, I asked him about his recent experiences at school.

They recently had a class meeting and my son chaired the meeting. However, he said the proceedings did not go well. When I asked him why, he said, “Because just when we were getting to the end of the discussion, there was a guy who turned it over". After taking a majority vote on the final confirmation, he asked the members, “Well, are you okay with this proposal?”, the boy interrupts the proceedings by saying something like, “I think you should listen to the minority opinion as well". My son got a little angry and asked, “What on earth do you want to do?", he replied, “What? I don’t really want to do anything…” the boy replied.

People like that are everywhere … just meeting crashers. I’ve encountered people like that a few times, mainly at work, and it’s a shame that some elementary school kids are like that. I guess they do it because it’s easy to break up a coherent discussion and it feels good to get attention for it. I heard that every class meeting is like that, and the kids in charge of chairing the meeting get into trouble. Elementary school students have a tough time, too!

It has been a while since I was at Saizeriya, and I was a bit surprised to see that they have introduced food-delivery robots. These robots are now very common in chain restaurants and izakayas (Japanese style pubs). The sight of robots and humans working together is like something I saw in a science fiction movie a long time ago, and it makes me feel somewhat strange.

I walked a lot, so I think I will sleep well!
