The Circus is in Town: October 1 2023
St Neots had a circus this weekend and there are two more shows today as I write this.
Before you read on: I wasn’t supposed to take pictures during the show, so 🤫 everyone…
I haven’t been to a circus for a long time, I think the last time might have been in Hamburg when they still had horses and dogs, but now animals are no more and that’s great!
Anyway, having this only a 10 minute walk away from home, right opposite the Hyde Park pub, could not be ignored and it made for great entertainment on a Sunday afternoon!
I believe the circus is mostly made up of Ukrainians and are based in Sheffield, Yorkshire. They had a warrior show on at some point but yesterday was quite a standard one.
I do like all the acrobatic stuff; this guy had a little family setup with his wife and his about eight year old son who was also riding a unicycle. You can never start young enough!
These two were undoubtably my favourites; beautiful acrobatics.
This guy climbed on some chairs later on.
I loved the costumes, some more colourful but all sparkly…
I must admit that I am not a fan of clowns, but this guy was quite entertaining in between the acrobatic sequences by involving the audience making us clap along to "An der schönen, blauen Donau", that did make me laugh, being the kid that I am.
One final shot of the whole ensemble! Go and see them if you can!

I’ve not been to a circus in years. I sometimes see them set up in Stotfold when I run that way. They do have some talented people, but I wonder how well paid it is. It’s a little crazy to thing that you would have seen lions at the circus when we were kids and their life would not have been great.
I take it Mia didn’t run away to join the circus. She seems to have a few tricks.

Animals in circuses: I remember [seeing this]() in the past and it still makes my heart race today, the poor soul. She was abused for many, many years.
Although horses and dogs are quite trainable it’s good that they are banned in some countries, but many still (ab)use them; it’s great that charities try to change that.
I’ve not seen that video, but it’s horrific. The elephant was obviously terrified. So many have been exploited for our 'entertainment’.
Not terrified, more frustrated and desperate to get away.
You can see that in the way she attacks her "carers", years of built up anger. 😭

I went to a circus a few months back, no animals also, but I didn’t mind. Did they specifically so no photos during the show? I don’t think ours said anything as it was so noisy and lots of lights going on inside the big top. Even when they did the balancing acts it was very noisy.

It brought to light how much they are abused and it still makes me cry when I watch it, how much hate she had for her "carers"; it’s one of the main reasons why I am totally opposed to any animals used in circuses, aquariums or animals in the tourist industry…
They did, don’t tell anybody… lol
I suppose it was noisy as well, the music was for sure, they had some catchy tunes that they had amended to suit their performance… Pretty cool!
