Road trip to the smallest city in Bulgaria - Melnik

Yesterday me and a good Friend of mine decided to take a trip to the city of Melnik. It is the smallest city in Bulgaria.

It is about 2 hours and 30 minutes drive from Sofia. The weather is not getting any better so we decided to at least take a stroll and eat something away from the big city.

Through the small city passes a tributary to the famous river Struma. At this moment there is no water.

We were very hungry from the drive so ate some local casseroles. Very tasty. The place is also abundant with cats. They are fed very well because Melnik is also full of Taverns.

We continued our walk and enjoyed a lot of cats company. Wine degustation places and Taverns.

The place is also full of small Chapels, Antic ruins of buildings, and history.

The city of Melnik is sorrounded by very interesting rock formations. Which look more like pyramid formations. All slopes are sand made. They are very interesting. Unfortunately it got dark very soon and we could climb to the top and check them out in daylight. We also tried to visit the Rojen Monastery. The biggest one on the region which also unfortunately was closed.

Nevertheless, we had a great time. Hopefully the weather will get better and I will do some hiking in the near future.
