On 13 November 1940, the animated film “Fantasia” was released, a film produced by Walt Disney in which the animated story is combined in equal parts with a soundtrack of classical music pieces performed by the Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra.
“Fantasia” is made up of seven animated shorts whose central character is Mickie Mouse and which serve to visually represent representative pieces of classical music by the greatest composers in history.
“Fantasia” is considered a masterpiece and was revolutionary in its time. Despite this, it was a commercial failure because it required very expensive equipment for its projection, which reflected a stereoscopic sound effect. Only a few cinemas were able to screen it, and the imminent outbreak of World War II meant that production was highly unprofitable.
