Devil’s fingers. My Actifit Report Card: September 24 2022

I came accross this “plant” during my today’s hike. It’s called “devil’s fingers” (Clathrus archeri) and is not a flower. It’s not even a plant, in fact. It belongs to the fungi kingdom.

It originally grew in New Zealand. Brought to Europe by the British as… decoration, the fungus found its way into forests of Central Europe and now grows in the wild. It’s not poisoning but it’s not edible either. It looks like a starfish or an octopus. Strange thing.

This is our domestic poisoning mushroom - fly amanita. Nice looking, but don’t you ever eat it!
