How are you guys? I hope you are all very healthy. After a long time, when the weather improved, I got a chance to reach Gonadeniya village, where my wife’s parents’ house is located. As per my wife’s request for some time, today is a working holiday. I prefer to walk in that beautiful village because it feels cooler even when the sun is shining and I can enjoy the nature. The destination is about 47 kilometers away from my house, so I started this journey on my motorcycle and reached that house after about an hour. After staying at home for a short time and drinking tea, I went for a walk inside the village with my daughter. My daughter also likes to visit nature because she loves it.

Gonadeniya village is a village full of crops like tea, paddy, coconut and rubber. Low country tea cultivation is done here. If there is space in the land of the householders, tea cultivation is done to some extent. Because the vehicles of the tea plantation companies come to buy the tea leaves, the growers do not have to bear the cost of transportation. This area is favorable for tea cultivation as the rainfall is more than required. The sense of well-being when walking through a tea garden is a beautiful experience.

The mother-in-law mentioned that when there was a flood in the whole of Sri Lanka a week ago, these roads and fields were like a single river. As the rain subsided, the water receded and all the roads were restored. Because the field must be prepared before sowing the rice seeds, the farmers were seen getting down in the mud and preparing the land these days. There was some sunburn but it was not a problem for both of us because the body was touched by the wind.

Walking is a really good physical exercise. Whole body components are recovered by walking. When looking at the land area, the green color can be seen completely. The people of the area pay more attention and care to preserve the green color. Small canals can be seen to transport the water needed for the paddy fields. Farmers have been using traditional technology since ancient times to store excess water. It is advantageous to use this water during periods of rainless weather.

When walking near a canal, my daughter urges her to stop by it to look at the small freshwater fish. Also, since her childhood, she likes to throw small leaves into the river and see how it flows. After that, we walked about a kilometer and reached a place like a mountain.

After looking down from there, you can see rubber and cinnamon plantations. On the other hand, the spread of “thorn coconut” cultivation from the top of the mountain to the bottom can be considered as a damage to the environment. State-sponsored plantation companies often do such massive environmental damage. Such actions are not very favorable. It can be considered a blessing to have a very nice and relaxing day today.
