Bridalway Cycling Dream : My Actifit Report Card: March 31 2025

So, after a look at the weather forecast and a good breakfast, I set out on what would become the longest ride of the year so far! A roughly circular ride of almost 30 miles, circumnavigating Horsham.

This ride would include some unfamiliar tracks, as I am now expanding my horizons a little to keep it interesting. Starting off on a very familiar but lovely route out towards Horsham on tracks and paths off the main roads.

There are always road crossings to be negotiated, but that is a fact. Part of my route took me along the Downs Link. An old railway route, now a long cycling track between Guildford and Shoreham.

There are many bridges along this old railway route. I took a couple of pictures to show different styles of bridge building. Old and more modern.

The fun bit started after I left the Downs Link. Now, it’s onto very rough bridalways which I had no idea what to expect. The conditions are now getting very dry, however, even now, there are some wet patches that have to be avoided.

These bridal ways can be uncomfortable, especially when the ground dries out like it is now. Horses leave deep hoof marks, and when this dries, the result is like riding on a jack hammer! 🤣

Most of the route was very pleasant, taking me through some private estates, and looking very nice in the sunny conditions.

At last I emerged from the long bridal way section and into more familiar territory. St. Leonards forest. I often ride through this forest and it provides a great link to get me home.

The picture above showing a section called Mick Mills Race. A one mile long straight track.

Todays ride was just what I like. Long, hard, and satifying, in every way. More to come soon! 😜 This report was published via Actifit app (Android | iOS). Check out the original version here on actifit.io 31/03/2025 26615 Cycling, Daily Activity
