Got a different day lined up. Heading into Berrry for my granddaughter’s christening. We drove into the village and parked near where we are having lunch. Walked up to the church - my younger son drove past - did a u-turn and came back to ask if we wanted a lift
Front view of St Patrick’s Catholic Church in Berry built in 1935 replacing one built in the 1890s
The consecration plaque
First time attending a Catholic christening. The symbolism is strong and the minister was very good at explaining it all - signing with the cross with parents and godparents, signing with olive oil, the baptism itself, invoking the prayers of the saints
This stained glass window celebrates one of those saints - Mary McKillop - the first Australian saint who lived a while in the Josephine convent up the road and attended the church in the 1890s
Minister was really good at talking with the family and godparents - my son is the one with beard and glasses
Lighting of the baptism candle is a key part of the symbolism - lit from the Easter candle. The family and the godparents
Walked down to lunch spot before the rain hit. Not walked this end of town - a few nice old houses
Had a good lunch. Was good to see my 3 children - not seen them all together since my granddaughter’s 1st birthday nearly a year ago.
We skipped the afternoon tea at my son’s place. We are not comfortable there
Dinner: Keep it simple pizza
