Sphinx Trail - Bonnet Orchids and Lacewing : February 1 2023

Day started out a little different to plan. My wife got up - had her shower - then climbed back in bed. Big dizzy going on - she stayed in bed most of the day. Forecast was for a warm day

Kookaburra came to deck and was watching for bugs. Always amazes me what they spy

Did dig out some worms from compost heap - kept him happy for a bit and takes pressure of too many worms out of the compost bin

Rode to walk a track in Ku-ring Gai Chase NP not walked for a while. This shape caught me eye - looks like a butterfly. It is a hakea seed pod opening and has not coloured in the sun

This is the sun tanned version

A few boronia flowers emerging

Found one bonnet orchid flowering down the hill - last time there were flowers without the burgundy colour

Banksia serratum - fabulous afternoon light for the photo

More full form

Also good light for St Andrews Cross spider - did move away from centre of web when photographer touched the web

Blue eyes lacewing landed and posed

Close up

One more bonnet orchid on the way back up the hill

Christmas tree - Ceratopetalum - not sure of the specifics. Only saw this as the branch had broken off and was on the ground

Did find two orchids flowering - had hoped to find a few midge orchids

Ride done - steps done tidying up ack lawn and walking the dog (twice)

Evening did cool nicely for a good BBQ outside
