nightwalker misadventures: June 27 2024

on this edition of the nightwalker series (i’m calling it a series by now) i just went out there and walked around the place.
i decided to head in the direction of a park i wanted to go but never reached in a previous session.

it wasn’t completely dark when i went out this time, but it was a bit gloomy thanks to the unpredictable weather.
so some of the pictures i took still had some natural light.

"never knew that this ramen shop had broken tiles aesthetics on the facade", i thought.
when natural light is present, i tend to see details of the bigger picture.
when it gets dark, i only get to focus around the light source.

at one side street, i saw succulent plants multiplying in their pots.
i have passed by this road a couple of times now and it was the first time i noticed these beauties.

and then i saw a job i cannot do, lifeguard.
i will have to ask some swimming classes and learn some first aid before i could be one; i fail on both.
it was my first time seeing the pool still in operation, i wonder how wide and how deep the pool was to need some lifeguard on duty.
i felt like a voyeur taking a picture of something from the inside, not a good feeling at all.

now here is a new place i haven’t been in, i passed under some low hanging train tracks.
it was incredibly loud when a train passed over.
surely some people are taller than 2 meters, they will have to bend while walking under; i walked comfortably though.

then i finally reached some river side, that meant that i am close to my original destination.
the walking paths here were wide and lights from the nearby apartment complex illuminated the path.
this just shows how much artificial light tokyo sends out to space.

this reminded me of a picture nasa took of tokyo at night.
you could clearly see the outline of the rivers, i could easily point out where i took the picture above.
and this nasa picture was taken 2020, how much brighter could it be now in 2024?

i finally reached the park.
there were lots of benches around but these were in the middle of patches of grass.
no walking path towards them, sadly.
i wonder what type of vine that is on the roof, it will bloom this summer if it hadn’t bloomed last spring.

as i walked further, i witnessed a couple of high schoolers.
dating in the open, i felt like a voyeur again.

even this bike had a partner, one conveniently leaning on the other.
this place sadly reminds me of how alone i was, not fun at all.

there was a school nearby and students were practicing baseball.
i stayed for a while and checked how they were doing.
but i was far away this time, camera zoom was useful at this point.

and then it went off…

my phone ran out of battery!
i couldn’t even tour the entire park!
and the worst part, i had to rely on the old method of checking physical maps.
i do not want to retrace my steps, but i know the general direction of there to go.
i guess that is enough.
instincts kicked in while navigating the streets, and with it came the excitement of discovering something new.
it was fun to get lost at times but no photos for photo walk.

i am just glad that tokyo is safe, this would have turned dangerous if it were a different place.

and the gps map also stopped at where my phone went off.
where could i have turned left?
which road could i have passed?
i have no way of checking, too bad.
but here i am safe.

by the way, you can clearly see this river outline in that nasa night picture of tokyo.
have you seen it?

as always, AMPING KANUNAY!
