Happy New Year!

My partner and I traveled to the countryside of Nara to spend the Year End and New Year’s holidays at his parents home. My partner’s sister and her daughter also came home so I’ve been playing a lot with his 5 year old niece, and everyday’s been so fun.

Yesterday, my partner’s mom, my partner’s sister, her daughter and I went out together. Our destination was the onsen in the neighboring town. It’s not my first time to go to an onsen, which you can read in my posts, but it’s my first time with my partner’s family.

Before the onsen, we went to the nearby park to let the niece play.

There’s a very long slide there and guess what, even though I’m not good with slides, I managed to get on it for 3 or 4 times. Why? Well, of course the niece wanted me to do it, and I couldn’t say no to this kid’s request. She wanted to play with everyone so I, even though I was scared and being the great auntie, went along.

There’s actually a lot of activities in here involving climbing and even adults could have fun. I didn’t climb up to the 3rd floor but the niece and her mom did, which was so much fun to watch.

Of course we didn’t just do the slide and climbs, we also had to step and balance on some small stuff. It was also fun but at some point I couldn’t help but think of scary things like falling if I misstep. 😂

The park was so wide and only a few families with their kids were playing. The sled area was closed though, regretfully. I did some twisting exercises there too because there’s an adult exercising area. It’s a good place to hang out in the afternoon.

There’s last sunset of 2024 was too beautiful to see. I was moved a bit. I couldn’t help but think that despite the bad and unfortunate circumstances that happened to me in 2024, there were many things that I’m blessed with, including the people who are with me and have been good to me. And yeah, that includes the people I met here in Hive.

We went to the onsen and it was surprisingly great! It’s like a small bersion in the onsen places I’ve been in Tokyo. They had lots of onsens. Probably the best one was the milky bath, the waterfall-like onsen and the normal outdoor onsen. I also went to the Salt Sauna alone, and I’m pretty sure I was there for more than a minute, a new record set for me. 😅

They even had this onsen full of rubber duckies of different sizes! The niece was happily playing it with me. I think we played too much in the onsen that she was so tired on the car going home. 😅 Well me too.

I realized it was good that we went to the onsen on the last day of the year. It’s like I was washing away all of 2024, and welcoming a warm and fresh 2025. It was a good feeling, so I just hope 2025 will bring me a good feeling too!

After the onsen the niece and I were drinking milk, mine’s the plain milk and the niece had a bitter milk which looked like coffee milk and she didn’t realize it until I said maybe it’s coffee. 😂 She managed to finish the drink though. 偉かったよ！

Outside the onsen facility were some yatai (stalls) selling different food. The castela caught my attention because they had anpanman on them! It was so cute! We didn’t buy though.

We had soba and sushi at home for our last dinner of 2024. Everything was prepared by my partner’s sister. I’m so grateful to her and to her mom for taking care of me and my partner this holiday. While they do the cooking and cleaning up, I’m playing with this cute niece, and even now while I’m writing this, she’s sitting on my lap. 😅

All this running and playing around produced more than 5k steps. 😂

For 2025, I just hope for the better. I’ll keep my goals for this new year to myself for now. I’ll try my best to accomplish them, so wish me luck.
