So, it was a lovely afternoon. What else to do but go for a mountain bike ride in the wonderful countryside around the south of England.
I set off via some convenient foot tunnels and residential roads towards the outskirts of town. This took me along a nice quiet route marked as a private road. Itâs actually an old farm track, tarmacked for most of the way. Although the first bit is rough or partially surfaced.
A nice downhill section is taking me down to the main road. After crossing this dual carriageway (a rather dangerous task, but no other way to do it), then up into the woods.
A short stretch of woodland tracks opens into a large field where the path runs straight across. Itâs a really nice transition, especially on a sunny day like today.
This track ends in the outskirts of another town, Horsham. Just a few minutes negotiating some residential roads before entering another wood.
At this point, I had a choice of routes. Either take a shortcut via a possibly very wet and muddy track or the longer route avoiding this. I chose the short route today as the weather has been dry of late and so it should be OK. I was right!
Not too bad! In fact it was still sticky in some places, but I could easily ride along it. Now entering St. Leonards forest. A lovely large forest area. Rising up now all the way to the road bout two miles away.
The exit from the forest is the highest point of the ride. Now, a nice fast downhill along the road before taking a left turn into a bridleway. Into Holbush woods now and carrying on down towards Buchan Park.
A final stop at the lake before heading back home. It was a circular ride of about 23 km today. Not bad, and I felt good. This report was published via Actifit app (Android | iOS). Check out the original version here on actifit.io
