I finished work at 1pm on my last day in Riyadh. Completing the project at the customer, I didnât feel obliged to spend the rest of the day in our office. Instead, I went to the National Museum.
The museum tells the story of Arabia from the ancient times through the rise of Islam until the formation of the modern Saudi kingdom. Before the visit I had known only basics - I had had a vague idea of ancient Midianites (mentioned in the Bible) and Nabateans (those who built Petra in neighbouring Jordan). I had of course known the importance of year 622 AD and 632 AD (10 H). But nothing more, really. I was therefore enthralled to get deeper into Arabian history.
The museum is well organised. One is not lost in names of sultans, kings and imams. Those important are of course portrayed, but I felt itâs more a story of the land and its people rather than academic history lecture.
Adjacent to the contemporary building of the museum one finds the old Murabba complex - the historical palace of the rulers of Riyadh. The premises are open to the public and one is free to explore rooms and courtyards.
3hrs in the museum passed quickly and I had to transfer to the airport. This meant I didnât have an opportunity to get nearer the steps target of 32k. I have therefore finished play in @poprzeczka January. Havenât checked results recently but I am sure that @browery @edycu007 @manuvert @marianomariano and @racibo will be glad to hear that thereâs a competitor less. Anyhow, I am satisfied with my January result, even if I am outside of the podium.
Wondering however if @davidthompson57 would be equally glad to read my step count - if I am not mistaken, he was my rival in @poliac yesterday. This report was published via Actifit app (Android | iOS). Check out the original version here on actifit.io
