Heya Hiva シ
Ready or not, here I come…
-> from a day full of surprizes!
Looking back, I knew it was gonna be cold… so I did make sure to dress warm. The part I never factored in though, was the wind - which seemed to lash my face with brutal whips of frigid cold! I’ll be honest, the was the first surprize of the day. The next was my patience as I carefully pried this flattened piece of foil away from the road.
On the way to the local wetlands, I spotted something of interest a fair distance from the curb. This required further investigation of course.
Though the littered newspaper wasn’t a surprize, the fact that there was more to the scene of the environmental crime was.
After collecting the plastic trash, I was able to proceed with my journey.
Not for very long mind you, as I spotted more. Now that’s hardly a surpize either. I mean, I’m picking up trash everyday now, whilst on my mission to clean the planet. So what’s new then? Well, I wasn’t expecting the stagnant water collecting inside it to smell this bad - there are no words!
When I finally reached the wetlands, I tried to capture my torment from the icy wind, through the lens. Though scenic, the photo doesn’t have that effect… surprize for me, haha!
When the family of geese saw me arrive, they went into the water. Usually they’re more chilled than that… that was another surprize for sure.
At one point, whilst at the waters edge… I could only see one of the parents, with the rest playing hide n seek behind the reeds.
I was able to spot this really nasty piece of trash. It was an ancient shirt… wet, decayed and half buried. I was careful so as to not be surprised by a snake or spider - perhaps using it as shelter. Heart pounding, I tried with difficulty to pull it free.
I had to kinda move it back and forth to get it out. As I did, I could hear the damaged fibers tearing loudly. Eventually, the soggy piece of sand covered material was able to be bagged. My carrier became considerably heavier as a result.
What I never knew while on my haunches… was that the entire family of geese were now right behind me lmao. This was a brilliant surprize! I never heard them sneak up on me. I wonder what they thought. How awesome was that! Also, check how the two adults are keeping an eye from the rear. These geese are really clever.
I spotted a pamphlet caught in some grass, and went to collect it.
Looks like it was to advertise liquor. In the carrier bag it went.
With all these surprizes going on, I paused for a moment here. I don’t feel very safe around these parts. Any violent criminals potentially hiding in all that dense vegetation, may be starting to notice my routine by now. That’s something worth thinking about. That’s one surprize I’m not wanting to experience.
A sharp piece of hard broken plastic. That’s not meant to be here.
I noticed these two holes. They’re pretty sizeable and although I’m not a wildlife expert… I reckon something might live down there. The problem was, that I could see some plastic in one. I prefer not to know some things lol… I quickly removed it.
Looks like it was a strip of a black refuse bag.
But before we move on… check how big this hole is. What is down there!? Quickly (and respectfully) moving on…
Along the pathway, I found a battery. That can’t possibly be good for the environment.
That was followed by a plastic lid, which I speedily bagged. It’s worth reminding that by this point, I felt pretty blue from the cold. I cannot emphasize that enough lmao.
Then I found what seemed to be a page from a telephone directory. I didn’t include that photo, as it didn’t feel right for anyone’s contact details to be posted. Shortly after that, I found this hard brittle piece of sharp plastic.
A empty chocolate milkshake bottle. On a useless sidenote, I haven’t had one of those in a while.
Hey… I think I know what this is from. That’s another surprize. I could be wrong, but it could be from one of those courier bags. That type of plastic is very distinctive.
All the collected garbage went into the municipal wheelie bin where I stay. After taking a pic of the haul, I added it to another bag of trash. This, so that I may re-use the blue carrier (better for the environment). Really productive day overall. I’m worried about tomorrow, though… looks like the weather is probably gonna be very wild! That being said, I’m happy that I was able to clean the planet today, whilst at the same time getting fit. A final surprize was that after my mission, I noticed that no steps were recorded. I think it may have had something to do with my phone going flat overnight… but I was still able to get there in time lol.
Seeking peace,

Special thanks to @actifit and my ‘eco-citizen’ friends over at @cleanplanet , @cleanyourcity & @solarisfuture - stoked to be part of the solution, whilst getting fit in the process.
