It was a strange day indeed for me at work as there was no work for me on my regular job due to a combination of low flight schedules and too many workers!

I had some annual safety training to catch up on, so I was confined to the unit for the day.

Later, after lunch, some of us headed off to the airport to do some aircraft door training. This is something very important because, as you may already know, the door is connected to the escape shute. If the escape shute is not disengaged from the door, it will deploy explosively. This nearly happened to me! A crew member opened the door without first checking that the shute was safe. I was on the outside, but luckily for me, it did not deploy. I could have been seriously injured!
